I don’t know. I am turning 78 in a few weeks. Should I be retired? I like what I do. I make good money but I have enough money I don’t have to work. I enjoy working much more than sitting home watching the boob tube. It gives me a chance to interact with people, employ my creative skills and be involved with something productive. I have a flexible schedule and can take off and travel any time I want and go wherever I want. Why should I retire? I must confess to feeling somewhat concerned that, having started paid employment at 17 and working continuously for 63 years without once taking any kind of unemployment benefit, the considerable amount I paid in taxes was insufficient to educate the moron asking this question the meaning of the word“retired” … Most decent countries have a legal retirement age. The working population pay in to government run, or personal pension schemes, sometimes both. Hopefully when they reach retirement age, they can stop working and live reasonably comfortably off their pensions. This in turn can open up employment possibilities for the younger generation, thus starting the process in motion again.
