I can tell you the amount you get to live on after high rents, costs of living eg high elect, gas, food, fuel etc doesnt leave much for the unexpected.

Many retired people do service work – they join clubs such as Lions, Rotary, Probus, Toastmasters and others to help others less fortunate and raise money for essential projects. Many retired people do tasks for others – volunteer drivers, readers, visitors, tutoring and other things like these. Of course, having worked throughout their life and then contributed in unpaid, voluntary tasks, once doing such things are beyond them intellectually and physically, then perhaps they are entitled to freeload and whine (or wine or beer or spirits, whatever they fancy).
